For me, ballot access is not just about candidates and parties getting on the ballot, but also about making voting as easy as possible for voters.
Candidates & Parties: So many of us today lament that our politicians and elected representatives are “elites” or that the common man or woman cannot possibly consider it to be realistic to get on the ballot due to the requirements to do so, whether a very expensive filing fee, or having to collect hundreds and thousands of signatures. If a citizen wants to run for an election they should be able to. Period. And if a new party wants to start and get their candidates on the ballot, then they should be able to. Period.

Voters: I’m in favor of making election day a national holiday, early voting, and expanding the number of polling locations. I also have a question…..how is it possible we are almost 25% of the way through the 21st century and we don’t yet have online voting? We allow it for other things (I just voted for our local property owner’s association elections online), we can figure it out and make it work for other elections as well.
